Nick Jones

Nick Jones studied Fine Art at Bristol Polytechnic. After a period working in stained glass, he returned to painting, quickly finding his artistic voice with a series of abstracted landscapes.

For over 25 years, Nick’s work was inspired by the British landscape, evoking a light-filled world of hills, water, trees and sky. Later, his focus shifted to the Arctic, with visits to Finnish Lapland inspiring a series of paintings exploring the mesmerising beauty of the Aurora Borealis. Appointed Arctic Artist in Residence by the Friends of the Scott Polar Research Institute in 2018, he immersed himself in the region’s light and landscapes, creating a body of work that highlights the astonishing yet fragile beauty of the Arctic.

In 2022, Nick was awarded the Royal Geographical Society’s Cherry Kearton Medal for his ability to capture the play of light in the natural world. He has also been recognised in the Wildlife Artist of the Year awards and the Aesthetica Art Prize.

Recently, Nick has embraced screen printing, blending this experimental practice with his interest in light and spacious landscapes. His paintings and prints invite stillness and contemplation, offering a welcome pause from the noise of modern life.
