Rob Mackenzie
"Creativity heals. It's the foundation of my work and purpose."Â
Rob Mackenzie's artistic practice embodies this philosophy through masterful explorations of light, shadow, line and form. His work navigates the delicate interplay between abstraction, architecture and nature with a distinctive emphasis on the "presence of absence" where negative space holds equal importance to mark-making.
In 2014, at the peak of a 16-year career as an international branding designer, Rob experienced a catastrophic brain hemorrhage and stroke. The resulting challenges–right-side paralysis, aphasia, impaired vision–became catalysts for transformation. "The brain hemorrhage has shaped me but not defined me. To draw is medicine. And thankfully I have always been left-handed."
Rob’s neurodiverse perspective informs a unique artistic approach where limitation becomes liberation. Drawing from his background in 3D environments and design, he brings exceptional spatial awareness to compositions that capture fleeting moments of beauty with tender precision and emotional depth.
Through deliberate brushwork, deft penmanship and thoughtful composition, his studies of nature and human form create immersive spaces where viewers experience the restorative power of the natural world. Rob's work stands as both artistic achievement and a profound meditation on resilience, inviting us to witness the extraordinary within the ordinary and to reconnect with our own capacity for renewal.
